By Invitation Only. This CCA is not open for regular enrolment. Eligibility is determined by a swimming trial with our coaches.

This group must attend additional trainings twice a week in the morning. Open to all Grades 6-12, this is our Competitive swim CCA which is designed to focus on the skills and techniques required for competitive swimming and prepare swimmers for larger training sessions with increased workload. We will refine strokes and focus on starts, turns and finishes. To be a member of the GESS swimming squad, the swimmer must meet the following requirements:

  • Able to perform all 4 strokes over 50m in a time comparable to the rest of the squad.
  • Able to perform all 4 strokes in a legal manner as set out by FINA competition rules.
  • Able to perform a basic competitive turn on Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly or deemed by the assessing coach to be close to this requirement.
  • Must be available for school team swimming fixtures, including ACSIS and any invitationals.
  • Able to meet the pace and ability of the existing squad swimmers.
  • Commit to a swim team ethos and attend all training sessions.

Mark Pocklington is a Physical Education teacher here at GESS. He graduated in Sport Science at university and went onto studying sport at Masters level. He also has a PGCE in Education. Mark represented his county in swimming and played a variety of sports competitively including badminton. He is very passionate about teaching a variety of sports and is excited about building up the competitive swim team for GESS!

Jo studied bachelor of Human Movement majoring in Education at the University of Tasmania and has been teaching Physical Education in Primary and Secondary schools for the past 10 years. She has experience in coaching both junior and senior basketball teams, various athletic and swimming squads for competitive sports. Jo has a love for sports and the outdoors and enjoy playing touch rugby and cross country running.

Lasse Janum was an active competition swimmer in Denmark during his youth and he has progressed from coaching beginners to his first talent team a few years later. He has been responsible in training talents to compete on competitive national level and continued until he finished his teachers’ training. He still enjoys swimming a lot and compete leisurely in different open water and triathlon events in Singapore. and Team Marsden
